first playable

Throughout the week I was working on my project. Firstly I applied more detail to the buildings by adding a plane on top of the buildings to give a concrete and rooftop pattern.

Secondly, I tried to create my character from scratch, creating with cubes and spheres, but this turned out to be difficult. I then watched a youtube tutorial helping create my character. I got my character from Mixamo, which is free if you have an adobe account. I looked for a character that fitted my game, so I chose a secretary. This was a perfect fit for my game. I then applied all the textures and materials to my character/player in Unity

Finally, it was time to delve into the nitty gritty...coding. I first wanted to start with the basics and I put my character on the ground, instead of the buildings, as the player was falling through the building. I have yet to figure this problem. I got my players to jump and jump according to speed and gravity with the aid of the unity tutorials.

I wanted to seems like my player was moving, so the sky in the scene moved backwards in order to create the illusion.  At first the sky was moving left and not back, so I analysed my code and figure I had set the sky to move left instead of back. I then added my sky to continue.

  1. Hi Alex
your game seems to being going well, I also discovered Mixamo and found it quite useful for import a character model I saw as well that you can download certain animations as well that may be useful to you. The use of background as well would work really well to show the movement of the character. So far looks really good cant wait to see how it ends up.

  2. Heya Alex,

Your game is looking so good already omg, wow like hahah. I love how you're using the illusion for getting your sky to move, my brain would be melted trying to do that. I love your lil secretary she adorbs xo. If your player is falling through objects in your game I think if you add a mesh collider onto them objects it will avoid this problem! (Hope I'm right oh gawd...)

All the best Alex, looking forward to your game!

  3. Hi Alex,
Your game looks so good already with it only being the first playable, really impressive, I remember you telling me about Mixamo, I'll definitely have to have a look at the characters now after seeing how well your character looks! Your buildings look so realistic too, its so cool. I love the idea for the game and the way it looks and your game seems like its going on the right track and I have no doubt it will be great once it's finished!
Can't wait to see the final product and goodluck with the rest :)

  4. Hi Alex I really like how your project is looking it looks like you put so much work into it. The buildings in your project are really cool and I like the detail that you added with the plane. The buildings also look really detailed which is very cool I'm sure your game come out class. I have never heard of mixamo before but I definitely will have a look at it because it seems quite cool and it could work in my project as well to make my own character. Overall I really like your project and best of luck with making the rest of it.
