Week 9 Reading and Writing

As I reminisce and reflect on the reading and writing tasks I have completed in this module I have gained a lot of knowledge about gaming and how to create a game. I never knew how much work goes into creating a game. When entering this module, I had little to no knowledge about gaming.  Now, when I play games I am analysing the game mechanics, the narrative, the level of difficulty and is the game engaging and so much more.

In the first stage of reading and writing, I was proposed with the question What is a game?.  I learned that question can be answered in several aspects. As I progress with my game, I always tend to look back on the notes I have created in Game Design. When creating my game I always consider this sentence. The components of a game: rules to action and storyline. If you want to have a captivating game, construct rules of what your player can or cannot do while playing the game.

Also during this reading, I learned about several different ways for brainstorming. Brainstorming is crucial for game design. I have carried brainstorming and applied it to group projects. In the brainstorming session, collect and record suggestions as people begin to share and build upon each others ideas.

I also learned about the Ramsey Method: it is propose the idea that by carefully examining large amount of information you can uncover new information or discovery inconspicuous links. I like the effectiveness of this method depends on two things: the amount of information received and the time spent studying it.

Also recently I discovered the Flow Theory, how crucial is creating an interesting game fro the audience providing pleasure for the player. We can utilise flow as a tool to assist improve our game in many ways by understanding things like this tiny diagram above and we can also have a framework for gameplay that is based on human psychology rather than winging it.

These readings have aiding me creating my game and are really useful. I am content that I wrote well-structured notes on each week for reading, as it became super useful. As I am in the process of making my game, these notes have had an impact on my game.

Creating my own game on unity is a challenge and I like being challenged. I create my game with the realistic goals and I would be super happy if accomplished that.  Also my biggest accomplished in this module is completing every task for this module...well apart from a few extra tasks, but its hard trying to get every task done and I hope to continue this in the final weeks.

In order to get the more out of the reading and writing experiences in this class, I feel like we only touched upon the gaming knowledge and there is plenty of more information to learn about. I feel like you must delve more into researching about gaming knowledge. I am also open to learning any new topics. I am intrigued and may do more researching about game and learn more information in the future.

Overall my experiences in this module has been a rollercoaster, but once I complete my game and it function proper and I work on week by week and pass this module thats the main thing.
